NAIDOC Celebration Day and First Nations Seminar

08/07/2022 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

Victoria is in the vanguard of delivering a shared and just future for all its people and our U3A wishes to be part of this process. Our theme for Term 3 is First Nations and our first event is a special NAIDOC Celebration Day at the Multicultural Hub from 10.30 to 5.00 on Friday July 8th at the end of NAIDOC Week.

In the morning Professor Richard Broome, President of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and one of Australia’s most respected scholars of Aboriginal history, will give a talk and lead a discussion. Stimulus material for the discussion will be in the form of First Australians, a seven part tv series made by BlackFella Films and directed by Rachel Perkins. The series is on YouTube and links to the episodes will be sent well in advance so that members who enrol can watch at their leisure before attending our Celebration Day.

An optional indigenous finger food lunch from Mabu Mabu will be offered at a small cost to participants.

The afternoon will be a series of meetings with representatives of our Aboriginal communities. We have invitations out to a variety of people and Uncle Philip Cooper of the Aboriginal Advancement League and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Service Association has already accepted.

You can enrol for our NAIDOC Celebration Day and First Nations Seminar through myU3A or phone/email the office and request to be enrolled.
