Join Us
As a member of U3A Melbourne City, one annual fee allows you to enrol in a wide range of classes and social activities, held in and around the CBD. There are no additional fees for individual courses.
Year-long courses run from February to November, with many other activities and short courses scheduled throughout the year.

Not applicable. Membership for 2026 is closed and will reopen on 1 October 2026 with our Early Bird discounts for 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I join?
You may join any time. If you are interested in year-long courses, the best time to join is in early November, when enrolments open for the following year. Some popular classes fill up very quickly. However, there are many events, “Let’s Do” group activities and short courses which you can join throughout the year. Year-long courses will often accept late enrolments, if there are vacancies.
What is the membership period?
Membership runs for the calendar year. If you join any time after enrolments open the previous year (usually in October), you will receive free membership for the rest of the year, as well as being registered for the next calendar year.
Is it worth joining mid-year?
Yes. Although our year-long courses start in February, some allow students to join any time. You may join Let’s Do Groups at any time of year. Each term, new short courses are offered.
I can’t use the online system, how do I join/renew?
If you are unable to use the online system, you can visit or telephone the office during opening hours and an office volunteer will assist you. If the office is unattended, leave a voicemail message and a volunteer will call you back.
What if the class I want is booked out, will I get a refund?
The membership fee does not guarantee enrolment in any particular class, and is non-refundable. You may join the Wait List, and you will be notified if a place becomes available.
Will I have to pay any other fees or charges?
Once you have paid your membership fee, there are no additional charges to enrol. Some classes may require you to buy class materials, e.g. a language text book, or make a contribution to photocopying or other costs. If an activity involves attendance at an outside venue which incurs a cost, e.g. a café, theatre or gallery, that will be at your own expense.
What does Associate Membership mean?
If you are a member of another U3A, you may join U3A Melbourne City as an Associate. However, Associate members have lowest priority when enrolling in classes. That means popular classes may be fully booked before you can enrol. For this reason, you may wish to choose Full membership even if you are eligible for Associate. Associates cannot vote at the AGM.
