Joining U3A Melbourne City following her semi retirement in 2016, Nene has cultivated and expanded her interests in Botanic art, Guitar playing, yoga and languages through the generosity of the U3A tutors in these subjects. She now tutors in Botanic art for beginners, and yoga. In fact, for Nene, the whole U3A experience has been a practical example of ‘life long learning’ in action, and a revelation of the myriad ways in which professional career skills can be utilised for the benefit of the wider community post formal retirement.
Nene was a teacher and educational leader in both secondary and tertiary educational settings for over 4 decades, and has became involved in tutor recruitment and mentoring for the U3A organisation over the last few years. She enjoys encouraging anyone with a passion for a particular subject to share it with others, and in the case of no teaching background – no problem. Nene is happy to assist with a range of basic skills for communicating with, and engaging participants in U3A courses.
Outside U3A activities, Nene is a devotee of the Opera and the Essendon Football Club. She enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at Barwon Heads, where she spends a portion of each week. Keen travellers, Nene and her husband Ian are just as comfortable camping in an Australian National Park as they are wining and dining in Europe.
Nene joins the U3A Melbourne City Committee this year with a commitment to ensuring that learning is fun for everyone and that the lifeblood of our organisation, the tutors, feel cared for and supported in the fabulous work they do!
