Life Member: Tony Miles

Awarded 2020

Tony joined U3A Melbourne City in 2009, principally to improve his very shaky French under the wonderful and witty tutelage of the late and much-missed Dr Robert Hooke.

Tony was a member of the Committee of Management between 2010-2013 and an active member of the Promotions and Publicity working group since then.

Tony spent his working life making a wide range of advertisements including anything from airlines to corn plasters. When he joined the Management Committee he started making ‘adverts’ (flyers, mostly) for our U3A and its amazing range of courses and events. Tony says it has been a great experience and –mostly -a pleasure to help spread the news of the incomparable educational resource and social community that is Australia’s first University of the Third Age – U3A Melbourne City.

Here are just some of U3AMC’s amazing offerings Tony has promoted:

•Our annual Federation Square Seniors’ Week presentations,

•The Monthly Forums,

•The 25th & 30th Anniversary celebrations,

•Our multi-facetted Let’s Do program,

•The 2015 Film Festival and Fashion Show,

•Annual Winter Lunches,

•Volunteers’ BBQs

•2016 Melbourne Town Hall Writers’ presentations and

•Photography Exhibitions.

Based on the energy, innovation and commitment Tony has brought to these volunteer roles since 2010, Tony was commended for and awarded Life Membership in 2020.
