Awarded 2015
Betty Caldwell has been teaching the popular yearlong Wednesday Writers course at U3A Melbourne City for 10 years.
It is the view of the whole 2015 class that Betty is a warm, caring, diligent and extremely able Tutor. They say “we have all benefited from her leadership and improved our writing ability”.
Betty’s childhood experiences of country life, war and the Depression are shared in the rich Australian yarns which she writes so well. Her former secretarial skills of organisation, English grammar and shorthand contribute notably to the workings of the class. Drawing on her years as an ESL tutor and member of the The Victorian Society of Women Writers, Betty provides a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for her students.
The author of fiction and some 160 short stories, plus a similar number of articles covering a wide range of subjects, Betty appeared in the Inaugural State Edition of “Who’s Who” in 2008 and every year since then in “Who’s Who of Australian Women.”
Based on this sustained and conspicuous level of voluntary contribution, Betty was strongly commended for and awarded of Life Membership of U3A Melbourne City in 2015.
