Enrolling in Classes – Frequently Asked Questions

Note: If you are enrolling for classes next year, remember that you must hold a valid membership for next year before you enrol. For instance, if you join before 2nd October 2026, your membership is valid for 2026 only, and you will need to renew before you may enrol in 2027 classes.

Are there limits on the number of classes I can do?

Yes, there are limits to how many classes you may take. This is necessary to ensure equitable access for all our members. You may enrol in a maximum of 10 courses, not including Let’s Do Groups. Some very popular subjects have additional limits (see below):

  • Languages – maximum 2 classes in any language
  • Dance Fitness – 1 class only
  • Mahjong – 1 class only
  • Novels courses – 1 class only
  • Wine Appreciation – 1 class only
  • Writing – 1 class only
  • Yoga – 1 class only
  • Let’s Do Cycling – 1 class only
  • Let’s Do Walks – maximum of 2 groups

After the initial enrolment period (usually in January) these limits may be relaxed if there are spaces available.

Class Sizes: All classes have a limit on the number of participants, determined either by the size of the venue or the optimum tutor-student ratio.

Are there prerequisites for enrolling?

Most classes and groups have no prerequisites. If they do, they are listed in the course description. In particular, language, music, dance and yoga classes (other than beginner) usually have prerequisites, to ensure everyone in the class has sufficient skill to cope with the level of the class. Prerequisites are determined by the tutor and stated on the course description. Enrolment may be provisional, pending the tutor’s approval, in which case the course will be marked “TBA” (see below).

Can I enrol in a course after it has begun?

In most cases, yes, subject to available places and tutor approval. Each eBulletin advertises vacancies in longer courses.

What do “TBA” and “Wait list”mean?

  • “TBA” means the tutor must approve your enrolment, because participants need to have a minimum level of skill or knowledge to benefit from the class.
  • “Wait list” means the class is full, but you may join a waiting list. We recommend you do so, because it’s not unusual for class members to drop out during the year, or even before the course commences. When this occurs, the next person on the Waitlist will be contacted automatically and admitted to the class.

Note that while you are waitlisted, you may not attend the class.

After you have enrolled, you can check your enrolments on your Member Portal.
