Aquatic Exercise for Fitness, Balance and Strength

Presenter: Dr Sophie Heywood, physiotherapist, Hydro Functional at Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre, and St Vincent’s Hospital

This session will cover research-based evidence on the benefits of aquatic exercise. Aquatic exercise for managing arthritis will be covered in more detail. The session will include physiology, physics and a good dose of practical advice on aquatic exercises for fitness, strength and balance, as well as swimming. This session will also provide some information on the “Hydro Functional 500/50 Challenge – 500 Aquatic Exercise Sessions in 50 Days”, supported by the City of Melbourne.
